Keep An Open Mind – Each To Their Own

I hate to break it to you – but all is not what it seems.

I have tremendous respect for those who find strength and value in religion – all be it your beloved Kong is not a religous man. Considering how many years I’ve spent in various Latin American countries, believe me when I tell you….this has lead to more than few “extremely heated” debates, not to mention  the occasional tussle,  and even an instance where several womens shoes where thrown at me – high velocity style.

Trust me…..you don’t mess with Jesus – in Colombia.

I have my views…. as you do yours, and considering the amazing diversity of culture and religion on this planet – mutual respect and an open mind generally does the trick. To each his own.

That being said – I present to you, similarities in the story of Horus, an Egyptian “sky god” worshipped several thousand years before the time of Jesus and the stories of our modern day bible. Let me reiterate – The Egyptians very well documented writings of Horus predate the bible by SEVERAL THOUSAND YEARS. Stories from the life of Horus had been circulating for centuries before Jesus birth (circa 4 to 7 BCE). Check out this “side by side” comparison – and I will leave it for you to ponder.

Thanks for that rundown. Having grown up in a Southern Baptist family, I too have changed as an adult. I think many people find much comfort in believing. It might be best for them. For me, to see what is true is best. I don’t really share my beliefs because I see no purpose in it. However, I find Buddism to be helpful to me. It is all inside ourselves–no need to look outside for meaning. Thanks for this run down. I’ll keep it on file!

I find it all completely fascinating, and appreciate any opportunity I’m given – to learn of others beliefs. It would take an entire lifetime to gain deep understanding/appreciation for all that is out there religiously speaking. I try my best to take in what I can, learn from others – and as suggested keep an open mind.

Thanks for commenting – and enjoy your weekend!

Fantastic Kong, I know the purpose of this blog is primarily concerned with for, but this piece is extremely thought provoking to my spiritual side. Do you have any books or other resources you would recommend for more comparison s between Egyptian religion and Christianity?
Good trading to you, I am waiting to get long jpy pairs on a break with momentum or at higher prices. I really think aud/jpy looks poised for some nice carry trade unwind.

    • Forex Kong March 31, 2013 / 3:34 pm

Hi Warren – I’m gonna see how Monday looks, and couldn’t agree with you more on JPY pairs. If that’s all for the correction then – YES!

The next move up is gonna be a wopper in AUD, NZD etc…..

I’d suggested months ago that long USD/JPY would likely be my “trade idea of the year” so……any further downside will be a gift!

As far as “religion” goes – this was more so spill over of my interests in ancient culture / mayan / sumerian / inca – not as much a comparison to Christianity. It’s obvious that these stories where simply reworked/re written, and as I understand it the “bible” was once a series of some 17 books – long since edited / revised. There was far more going on in ancient civilization than most care to believe.

I don’t have any books to recommend but do believe the television series “ancient aliens” provides all kinds of insight – running parallel to my own beliefs. Take it for what it is – an open mind comes in handy.

      Have a good one there!

      • Adrian (Vancouver) April 1, 2013 / 5:08 am

I also found that series, Ancient Aliens, to be very interesting and thought-provoking. It was interesting reading your comparisons between Horus and Yeshua of Nazareth, as it was my first time to hear some of those points. By the way, the Latin “us” of “Elasurus” is actually a suffix, not a prefix. 😉

I agree that modern religious beliefs, as well as the beliefs and stories of ancient cultures are fascinating.
Regarding the bible, it’s also worth remembering that the compilation of writings that we now call the bible was hand-written and hand-copied, countless times, long before the days of printing presses or computer “copy and paste”. It was also transcribed and translated from several different languages before English, opening up the possibility for plenty of human error and subjective interpretation.

What a can of worms we’ve opened here!

If I could get this kind of feedback / participation “on topic” – this blog would be through the roof. Interesting what gets people fired up….. with religion still way up there on the list.

I still find it amazing how the Egyptians several thousand years earlier where able to document things so accurately ( as with family lineage for example – we know exactly who married who, their first and last names…who their children here, then in turn “their children” – the exact dates they lived / died / fought wars etc ) as well preserve bodies ( as we’ve recovered kings, their children , their writings etc) but for whatever reason – zip on Jesus. I’ve read arguments that suggest he never even exisited, as there is not a single piece of coroborating evidence.

Didn’t these people have last names?

Anyway….Im done here – back to the task at hand. Markets are on the move.

Definitely “keep an open mind “:
    pleaseconvinceme.com/2012/is-jesus-simply-a-retelling-of-the-horus-myth/

    • Forex Kong March 31, 2013 / 7:54 pm

Where you goin with this SS76?

From the “about page” at pleaseconvinceme -“it’s our desire to raise up a new generation of Christian Case Makers who stand firm in their faith, ready to defend Christianity”.

Hardly what I’d consider an open mind…..hey cool – they even offer training!

      • SS76 March 31, 2013 / 8:00 pm

Simply the comparison chart is completely rooted in false claims about horus, which was the basis of your post. I’m all about keeping an open mind about different beliefs but ensure you have researched what you are claiming.

        • Forex Kong March 31, 2013 / 8:10 pm

You’ve got to be kidding me.

The site you’ve made mention of? – Just a “liiiiiitle” bias don’t you think? – raising a new generation? – defending Christianity?

          I’m not claiming anything.

          Are you?

  4. SS76 March 31, 2013 / 8:37 pm

    Ok, this with sources cited.
    tektonics.org/copycat/osy.html

I’m saying is that if you are interested in learning about other religions you also need an “open mind” when something you posted is completely refuted. Like you said, to each their own, but don’t ignore the enormous body of evidence for jesus and pass a bogus comparison to a Greek myth while concurrently claiming no bias.

All the best. I do like your stock market approach!!!

    • Elva March 31, 2013 / 8:44 pm

Look what is said in the green box. I’m ok if it is true. I’m ok if it is not, but people with a certain view are not the ones I will trust to say if it is true or not.

    • SS76 March 31, 2013 / 8:44 pm

Yes by the way, first Site completely biased, second is better with sources cited. Snp down this week, back up till mid May, then major down into end of july

      • Forex Kong March 31, 2013 / 8:58 pm

        SS76,

Obviously you’ve got more a touch more invested “religiously” than I’ll ever have (myself being from another planet and all) – so let’s just leave it at that. I figured I’d ruffle a feather or two with the post ( that being the general idea here ) but certainly won’t be debating it further.

Each to their own – right?

Best of luck to you as well.

  5. turenne April 1, 2013 / 4:31 am

    Hi

I am not christian and couldn’t care less about jesus but it is true that some of the claims in your table are completely made up. for example Mother: Meri. Miriam (a.k.a. Mary).
    very far fetched.
however I think the link between winter soltice, spring festivals and the current christian religion are obvious. christian secular tradition intricated with lots of pagan rituals (easter eggs /bunnies= fertility).

  6. SS76 April 1, 2013 / 6:15 am

Oh ya, provocative subject for sure. I’m short the S&P for likely the week. Expecting a small pullback to approximately 1530

Not sure how having sex with a dismembered necromancer qualifies as a “virgin” birth…perhaps you can expain?

    • Forex Kong April 1, 2013 / 8:43 am

I can’t explain a single thing about it.

      Sorry.

  8. magnetpal April 1, 2013 / 9:58 am

Great topic! I did lot of research about God and I believe I know the answer. I am glad to share what I am allowed to. My thoughts are based on Indian roots. Lord Rama is a very important God in Indian mythology. You know what? Ra – sun in Egypt. Ma-moon. So Rama is nothing but sun and moon only.

Rama is a way’ teaches how to reach God within ourselves. We call soul. Where is it in our body? As long as soul is there, we call Raj or Karl. If its no more’ we call it a dead body. So where is this soul location? No science can tell this.

We call mind. Where is the origin? Where does the mind originate or its location? Without knowing answers to these questions, we will not know where the God is in our body.

I make one thing crystal clear. We cannot find god outside. We have to reach within ourselves only. Know thyself. Its easy and everybody knows this golden word. But nobody tells how to know. What’s the path. Unfortunately this was kept as dark secret. But luck or god,s grace, I came across this.

    To be continued..

    Kong,

I really appreciate your take on the market and I look forward to reading your posts.
I dont really understand what you were trying to do by posting this “comparison” during Easter. If you were trying to put down on what some people consider sacred then you did your job. If you were just trying to stir it then you did that also but I dont understand why you felt the need to do it.
As you say , if you are not a religious person then you would not understand the implications of what you did. Hope you will try to research it further in the future.

    • Forex Kong April 2, 2013 / 9:22 am

      Hi Kevin.

I think you’re doing a pretty good job here to illustrate my point – It doesn’t sound like you’re keeping a very open mind.

It’s the “suggestion” that “perhaps” there is more to the story than “you care to believe”. So why does that make it wrong?

I guess what you are actually saying is “you” refuse to consider/respect others and there views.

Perhaps you can research the phrase “to keep an open mind” – and see what you come up with.

It’s food for thought Kevin – nothing more.

      • SS76 April 2, 2013 / 12:29 pm

Kong, the issue here is on one hand you present the comparison without doing any research on whether the comparison is actually valid. You bold that this story is “very well documented”, etc, but you clearly didn’t read that stuff yourself since you didn’t even know that the claims regarding Horus in the comparison are completely false. Then you proceed to state you can explain absolutely nothing about the comparison (so why on earth post it? I am not trying to convert you to anything as you can see by my comments and I also believe there is nothing wrong with questioning beliefs, the status quo, or whatever. Had you started this out with “I have no idea how true this is, so take the comparison with a grain of salt”, I think your intentions would not have been questioned.

I just would prefer you stick to the markets which I think you are quite good at actually (and the reason why I added you to my blogroll), rather than delve into a topic you don’t have adequate knowledge about and present fallacies as if they were fact. There are plenty who will be happy to engage you and I’m sure that was not your intent for “forexkong.com”.

        • Forex Kong April 2, 2013 / 12:45 pm

          Kevin.

It was a side by side comparison of two “mythical beings” – how valid does it need to be?

let me get this straight – all the “claims” about “Horus” are completely false – but all the “claims” about “Jesus” are true?

Forgive me for not stating the obvious prior to posting – but let me do it now.

“I have no idea how true the story of Horus, or the story of Jesus, or the story of Krishna or that of Rama, or Durga, or Viracocha is so please, please, PLEASE take any comparisons with a grain of salt”.

And that will put a wrap on the topic of “keeping an open mind” – as clearly, clearly, clearly….. this is a seemingly impossible task.

  10. SS76 April 2, 2013 / 12:51 pm

Thats better Kong. You believe Jesus is mythical, many including myself do not agree with that. I didn’t read anyone who posted that doesn’t have an open mind, rather most including me took issue with the way this was presented.

    • Forex Kong April 2, 2013 / 1:17 pm

Please Kevin – I’m really doing my best here….but find this all rather exhausting.

This isn’t a forum for expression of religious views obviously – so can we just call it a day?

Believe whatever you want man – that was the point to begin with.

      • kevin1959 April 2, 2013 / 1:53 pm

        Kong,
SS76 was talking not me 🙂 I agree with him/her but as I have told others lets agree to disagree and move on
